A touch of history :

November 1783 – Mankind’s 1st flight

Pilâtre de Rozier and the Marquis d’Arlandes took to the skies in a hot-air balloon, making them the first two aeronauts. Since 1983, the bicentenary of the first human flight, this anniversary has been celebrated in Le Puy-en-Velay, at a major international gathering. Around 11 November, the summer of Saint Martin is a favourable time for hot-air balloons to take off. This is traditionally the last gathering of the year. Crews from all over the world gather in the Haute-Loire to bring the aerostatic season to a close.

The Duchesse de Polignac facilitated the first flight

Yolande de Polastron (18th century), Duchess of Polignac and confidante of Marie – Antoinette, used her influence to help obtain the authorisations for the first hot-air balloon flight in 1783.
